Underwater Photography

Under water photography is believed to be one of the most intriguing expanse of photography. It requires a need for specialized equipments and expert techniques to get a favorable outcome. In spite of the confrontation, underwater photography presents the possibility for rare and exciting picturesque opportunities. The most usual subjects for a photographer remains fish and other marine mammals, but they also quest for submerged caves, shipwrecks, sub aquatic landscapes, plant life and vegetation.

The crucial obstruction faced by photographers doing underrate photography is the intense release of color and contrast. The water absorbs the wavelengths coming from the sun very rapidly making all things appearing blue and green in color. The thrashing of color increases not only vertically but also horizontally. So the far away subjects also appear indefinite and colorless in the camera.

The underwater photographers can deal this problem with the help of two techniques:

  • Drawing the camera much closer to the subject can help in derogating the horizontal color loss. It is possible with the use of either macro lens that brings the subject closer or with the use of wide-angle lens that permits a close focus.

  • Another way to overcome this problem is with the use of flash, which helps in regenerating any color loss occurring through vertical column. Effective use of fill-in flash will blush any omitting color by supplying full range of light to the shot.

Some key points of underwater photography are:

  • Underwater photography is frequently executed while scuba diving. Thus it is essential for a person doing underwater photogrphy to possess the rrquires skill avoiding the risk of any mishappening.

  • Often there remains the possibility of coming across to the poor weather conditions like tidal flow, heavy currents or poor visibility.you must prepare yourself in advance to overcome these critical situations.

  • While doing underwater photography, one should make sure that your activity doesnot hamper or harm the environment and the aquatic life.

  • The application of flash is considered to be a difficult prospect of underwater photography. the flash should be utilised for restoring lost color and to affix the  all over exposure and not as a chief source of light.
