Portrait Photography

Portrait photography is an art of capturing Similarity in appearance or character of a person. Alike in any portrayal the focus lies in the face of a person, despite intact body and background may also be considered. Many people take delight in having their professional created portrait or some special purpose portraits to keep alive the memory of certain events or occasions.

There is always a great demand for virtuous Portrait photography, no matter where you are. The art of efficient portrait photography is not as easy as it might seem. Good portrait photography involves capturing of even the minutest of detail and pettiest of light. Everything inside the frame needs to be balanced and controlled making the picture appears realistic. Portrait photography requires a lot of skill and efficiency to master, along with good camera, lenses and other studio equipment.

Here are some tips that can guide you for good portrait photography:

  • Framing the desired subject in the middle might not be a great idea to work. Though in few cases, it may look interesting, but trying other ways of framing can create an interesting visual element to the portrait.

  • Sometimes you may take care of everything in a shot like lightning, composition, background etc., but when you get the print, the subject appears mislaid in the background. The reason lies in the fact that you did not get close enough to the subject. A portrait has much impact when the wasted space is very less.

  • In most cases, harsh lightning is not favorable for a portrait. Try to avoid the shadows on face as they augment wrinkles and aging signs; unless you want to capture that particular feature.

  • Light forms a very important base in portrait photography. Everything remaining perfect besides the lighting can destroy a portrait. Analyze lightning situations carefully before taking a snap in both the cases indoors and outdoors.

  • It is advised to use flash in case of unavoidable harsh lightning conditions. Using flash or fill flash during hard lightning helps in mitigating the shadows in the portrait providing pleasing results.

The best way to improve the quality of portrait photography is by taking lots of portraits. Practice as much as you can to achieve the best results each time.
