Nature photography

Photography plays a vital role in capturing the natural existence. With the outspread of human habitation into the forests, landscapes, submerging meadows, photography can unveil unparallel beauty of form, shape, color and texture which otherwise might have been left unnoticed.

A question of scale

A key to favorable nature photography is by moving closer to capture an artful or simulated semblance of nature. With the Emergence of modern cameras, close up photography is no longer a technical problem. Many cameras allow close focusing and many zoom lenses have macro mode settings permitting to shoot with fore element nearly touching the subject.

Close-up equipment

Bellows and extension tubes are the additional equipments that help in getting closer to the subject. For a successful nature photography aligning the scale is very important, which completely relies on a photographer. For instance, a bluebell patch from a distance looks like an elusive wash of color, but one can move closer so that your sight is of a single plant and then more closer so that single flower fills the frame and if you want you can move even closer to capture the details of the single flower.

Confined view

When working with subjects from natural history, the view is much more restricted than photographing the landscapes. Some of the disciplines, if applied can give good pictures.

  1. Judge the most appropriate angle of the camera from which you want to photography the subject.

  2. Analyze the best composition and align the frame such that the dispersion of color and tone is maximized within the frame.

  3. Experiment with the different angles of framing like vertical, horizontal and even diagonal if it appears best.

  4. Finally it is very important that you consider the right kind of lightning for the subject and if you are not satisfied, wait for the time when you can get favorable light quality and direction.

Even if it is bright outside, one can use flash to bring detailing and life into the subject.
