FILL-IN-FLASH

The flash that provides sufficient light on the subject that otherwise might get shadowed while taking photograph is called fill-in-flash. It helps in capturing every detail of the subject provided that your subject is within the range of flash. The colors in the picture look brighter and striking with the use of fill flash.

An example of fill-in-flash is as under:

fill 1 fill 2

The above picture clearly shows the impact of flash, which can entirely change the appearance of your image. Picture no.1 looks very obscure and grayish because it has been taken without flash whereas picture no. 2 is very bright and vibrant because it has been clicked using flash.

Fill-in-flash can be used in the following situations:

1. For indoor photography, where lightning is deficit.

2. Outside, where the subject is being lighted from the back by the sunlight or any other light.

3. Where a portion of the subject has to be lighted and rest is left shadowed.

4. When the subject in the foreground appears dark and the background is accurately illuminated.

5. When you desire to illuminate the subject more than the normal.

6. For taking pictures at night.

One should not fear of using flash in daytime, as it can be used effectively in daylight too, provided that your subject is not very far from the camera.

Flash opens up a lot of possibilities of taking a picture in obscure and dismal conditions. It is definitely more efficient in dark and shadowed surroundings, but it can be of great help in the day also, if used cleverly.
