COMPUTER FILTER EFFECTS

The advancement in the field of computer technology has opened up a new line of approach in the field of image manipulation. Many effects can be added further to a photograph on computer to get more interesting and unusual results. First you need to import the original print, negative or transparency into the computer and then manipulate the picture using the CAD (computer aided designs) software. One of the ways of creating beautiful effects is through the use of filters.

USING FILTERS

Once you have imported the picture into the computer with the help of scanner, the pictures can be manipulated using filters, which is available in many CAD packages. Purpose of the filters is that they distort the pixels electronically in different ways and create an indefinite impression.

Some of the filters are as follows:

1. Pointillize filters: - as the name indicates, this filter breaks the colors of original image into dots, giving an impression of a pointillist painting.

                                                          
        
2. Displacement map filter: - here a translucent pattern already incorporated in the computer memory is superimposed on the original picture, with the use of displacement map.

3. Zigzag filter: - the color data skews around a central point, creating an image that appears as the reflection on the surface of rippling water.

4. Pencil stoke filter: - it gives flowing and vibrant image resembling that of a stroke given by pencil. Charcoal and crayon effects can also be achieved using this filter.
                                      

5. Extrude filters: - this combines pixels into pyramidal shapes that seem to leap out a t you. The sense of angularity produced makes a striking effect.
                                         

6. Crystallize filter: - it synthesize pixels of similar color into polygons of pure color. The sum of pixels making up a polygon varies.
                                       

7. Mosaic filter: - it is similar to the crystallize filter in principle, except that here the pixels are created in the form of small mosaic squares of virgin color.
