Careers in Photography



In the present day scene, Photography is considered to be a wide field of operation, providing many opportunities to the people practicing it. The initiation of digital photography has brought a revolution in the field of photography.

A photographer can have several options of working in different fields including journals, magazines, television, books etc.  Some of the careers in photography are listed below:

1. Fine art photographers: it refers to those photographers who sell their work to galleries, libraries, architects, banks, churches, community centers, hotels, interior designers, government etc. fine art photographers have the power to bring into being. Unlike staff or freelance photographers, fine art photographers relish their creative freedom, but at the same time they are required to be highly self-motivated.

               
2. Industrial/commercial photographers-such photographers are generally employed by the industries and their photographs are utilized as an Artwork that helps make something clear or attractive and also used as an archival matter.


3.  Free lance photographers:  these photographers are not working solely under one company. They are hired on a job or contract basis and can work simultaneously for different people. It is a good field for those who want to work according to their specified schedule or if they want diverseness in the work. 


4. Staff photographer: such photographers are engaged in developing images for advertisement purposes including magazines, brochures, reports, catalogs, publishers or other businesses who wants to convey a definite idea or story with the help of images.


5. Photojournalist: these photographers produce images to regularize a news story including places, people or events. They usually work for journals, newspapers, magazines and television where they generate influential photographs confining the essentials of a particular anecdote covered by them.


6. Forensic photographer: such photographers document or produce evidence for legal argumentation. They also document patient progress, medical symptoms and autopsy results. For entering such field, one requires knowledge in the area of criminal justice.


7. Studio owner:  these are the people who administer self-regulating photography studio or a segment of bigger firm like an advertising agency. This field entails business savvy people possessing artistic talents.
