SPECIAL LENSES

Photography literally means gathering light on a photographic suspension. In the process, film and the camera lens proves to be the significant elements concerning image superiority.

Lenses can vary as per the photographic needs and a good photographer must know the appropriate lenses according to the picture.

STANDARD LENS

These lenses are best for common and everyday purposes as they are light, blunt and compact. They are good as snapshots and for individual and casual pictures. These lenses mainly have a focal length ranging from 50-55mm.

MACRO LENS

The lens is excellent for close ups as it opens the possibility of taking sharp pictures at small distance. Normally macro lenses are good for capturing minuscule things as insects, flowers and coins etc.

The 90 or 100 mm lens is the most popular macro lens.

WIDE-ANGLE LENS

These lenses offer a broad view angle, extensive perception and enhanced depth of field. Wide-angle lenses are good for covering large areas like landscapes, panorama and outdoor shots including sceneries and architectures.

20mm, 28mm, 35mm are the frequently used wide-angle lenses.

ZOOM LENS –The lens that allows variation in focal length to increase or to decrease the size of a subject is known as zoom lens. Zoom lenses are becoming popular due to the fact that it offers an array of focal length in a single lens itself, avoiding the need to buy different lenses for focal lengths. The lenses are good for distant shots, that otherwise cannot be seen very clearly with human eye. However, in dim lightning conditions, it is not very advisable to use zoom lenses as they have low apertures. A zoom lens with 35-70 mm range is best suited in many cameras.

FISH-EYE LENSES

An exceptional camera lens with exceedingly wide angle is called fish-eye lens. It creates perverted images, making the photos look convex as it provides the angle of view of 180 degrees or greater.

Today, fish-eye lens are commonly used for landscape photography whereby wonderful images can be produced through distortion.

TELEPHOTO LENS

These lenses scale down the gap between the subject and the camera lens. Telephoto lens is appropriate for snapping sports events and birds and animals, because the lens brings the subject closer to us.

105mm, 200mm and 300mm are some of the popular examples of telephoto lens.

SHIFT LENSES

The lens has been designed to redress the deformity that occurs due to the tipping of camera either upwards or downwards in a normal lens. While taking photos from the ground level, shift lens helps in keeping vertical lines parallel, thus making the lens proficient for architectural photography.

Determining the objective and knowing the subject well in a photograph, can help in selecting the right kind of lens for a particular situation. Choosing the adept lens can definitely enhance the quality of your picture.
