Camera Filters

Filters are an imoprtant equipment in photography which can make pictures look very different and interesting. Different filters may be used for different lighting conditions. The photographer has to decide the filter, keeping in mind what he requires and what will look the best.

Camera Filters are generally of two types:

1. Glass Filters
2. Gelatin Filters

Glass Filters :
These type of filters come in such a form that they can easily be srcew-in attached to the camera lens. One of the drawbacks of this type of filters is that, you will need a different filter for every lens you use of a different diameter. A larger diameter filter costs more than that of a smaller diameter. This is basically because of more amount of glass used in the lens.

Glass filters are also used to save the lens from scratches and dust, with the main function of help in taking better pictures. These are essential filters and some of them are:

  • Ultra-violet Filters

  • Polarizing Filters

  • Skylight Filter

  • Neutral Density Filters

2. Gelatin Filters : This gelatin-based filters are cheaper than glass filters and are more convinient to use. This is because you don't have to buy different filters for different lenses of varied diameters. These are dropped into the attachment at the front of the camera. The filter-holder allows different diameters of filters as it has  interchangable adapter screw rings. however these filters are not very safe to use because the gelatin scratches out soon and the chances of lens spoiling becomes more.
