ADVANTAGES OF A SLR CAMERA
1 The most important difference which makes a SLR any day better than an ordinary point and shoot camera is the facility of changing the lenses. The photographer need not carry 5-6 cameras if he needs different lenses. He just needs to carry lenses.
2 Penta mirror in SLR helps view the exact scene through the viewfinder which will be shot. Whereas in a point and shoot camera, the viewfinder shows just a rough idea of what the picture will be like.
3 A SLR camera can capture pictures in low lights also. Other cameras can also do the same but only with the help of flash whereas this one can do it without the use of a flash also.
4 You can make your own settings while clicking the photographs. A SLR gives you the opportunity to do various adjustments to give you exactly what you want from your picture.
5 The shutter release system is instantaneous in a SLR camera. Hence you do not miss the once in a lifetime movement to go uncaptured due to a camera delay.
DISADVANTAGES OF A SLR CAMERA:
1 They are heavier and bulkier as compared to other point and shoot cameras. This is due to heavier detachable lens.
2 The manual setting of a SLR camera makes it not so easy for a beginner to use. But same is not the case with normal point and shoot cameras which are very easy to use and handle.
3 They are a bit more expensive than other cameras.
